Introduction
This is an exciting time to be working at the Conservancy which is mid way through a successful and ambitious capital campaign. Within the seven-person Development Department, the Director of Development is a senior member of the development team responsible for raising annual income of $3,000,000 and collaborating with the Vice President of Development and Marketing and other members of the Senior Management Team on the capital campaign.
Responsibilities
The Conservancy of Southwest Florida is a 7,000 member not-for-profit conservation organization founded in Naples, Florida, in 1964. The mission of the Conservancy is: "Preserving Southwest Florida's natural environment...now and forever." The primary purpose of this position is to Manage the annual fundraising operations of the organization, including design, manage, and evaluate a comprehensive and integrated development and membership program to raise annual and temporarily restricted support for the Conservancy of Southwest Florida. Position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Development. This is a full-time position with benefits.

- Strong commitment to environmental conservation.
- Bachelor's Degree in business or non profit management; a Master's degree is a plus.
- Five years experience in managing development programs with a thorough knowledge of all forms of fund raising.
- Demonstrated track record of success in all areas of annual fund management including annual fund, grant seeking, corporate relations and sponsorships, membership, special events and stewardship programs. Capital Campaign knowledge a plus. CFRE designation highly desirable.
- Ability to lead, manage and motivate a team of professional staff and volunteers in carrying out a diverse and aggressive fundraising program
- Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising database management software. Knowledge and application of prospect screening information a plus. Proficient in MS Windows, MS Word and Excel.
- Excellent analysis, budget management, organization and time management skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including a high degree of professionalism and a sense of humor required.
- Customer Relations Management experience in private or non profit setting desirable
- Experience organizing and working with Boards, Committees and Volunteers on strengthening fundraising programs.
- Ability to delegate effectively and diplomatically.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to simultaneously oversee multiple projects and initiatives in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) membership and code of ethics and confidentiality of all donor records and information.
Essential Responsibilities
The Director of Development is part of a three person senior management team (along with the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Director of Major and Planned Gifts) that reports to the Vice President of Development and Marketing. The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership and management of the annual fund portion of the fund raising activities of the Conservancy and oversee positions including, but not limited to, the following:
- Membership Coordinator
- Special Events Coordinator
- Contractual Support working part-time on fund raising projects.
Additional Responsibilities
- Create long range and short term plans for annual fundraising goals and activities including: annual fund, membership, grants, corporate sponsorships and special events.
- Work in concert with Director of Gift Planning to integrate major and planned gifts elements into annual work plan.
- Work in concert with Database Coordinator to fully leverage the database in support of annual fund development program.
- Ensure high quality standards and services for guest and member relations on and off campus.
- Maintain existing Foundation relationships and write grant reports and requests.
- Work with Vice President of Marketing and Development to establish strong working relationship with senior management team members, board of directors and volunteers to support and enhance fundraising efforts.
- Work with President/CEO and senior staff to identify non-campaign funding priorities and integrate development activities across division programs.
- Supervise the implementation of all activities relating to annual giving, membership services, non-governmental grants and special events.
