Duties Performed

1. Provide instruction for programs in environmental science and cultural history to elementary school students in the Environmental Education Program.
2. Facilitate ground initiatives, team challenge course elements and high ropes activities with middle school students in the Soaring Thru Spaces Program.
3. Provide leadership for GPS-based, outdoor science explorations with middle school students in Project O.R.I.E.N.T.
4. Participate in logistical and preparatory duties for both day and residential outdoor education programs.
5. Enhance the mental, physical, and social development of the students participating in the program by being a positive role model, a creative and energetic teammate and an excited leader.
6. Participate in ongoing, extensive training programs that prepare staff in content knowledge, program delivery and safety procedures.
7. Work week begins at 8:30 am on Monday and ends at 5:00 pm on Friday. This includes both day and evening programs, but no overnight supervisory duties.
8. The position is supervised by Kevin Moore, Education Director.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Education, Parks and Recreation, Biological and Earth Sciences, or other related fields. Stellar performance and experience with children in outdoor environments may take the place of some college classes. Individuals must have a commitment to the environment, a strong love of children, an interest in adventure-based or experiential education, and well developed communication skills. Creativity, enthusiasm and a love for hard work in a team atmosphere are also crucial to successful hiring and job completion.

Duration

Fall Season: August 18th to December 5th, 2008
** Exceptional staff will have employment opportunities in ensuing seasons.

Compensation

$250 per week, plus room, board and health insurance stipend. $270-$290 per week for additional seasons. Five-day work week with compensation days given for any weekend work.
