General Functions

Under the direction of the Environmental Education Coordinator and in accordance with the Christian nature and policies of Camp Minikani and the Metropolitan Association, the Program Leader will assist with all environmental education and conference groups crucial to the success of the YMCA program for school youth and adult participants. Through enhancements to the natural environment of Camp Minikani the Program Leader will provide service that will affect the local and regional environment and community of Southeastern Wisconsin.


Skills and Qualifications

Requirements for this position include:

  1. Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident at least 18 years of age.
  2. Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR is desired.
  3. Current certifications in American Red Cross or YMCA Life guarding is desired.
  4. Valid State of Wisconsin Drivers License.
  5. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  6. Prior experience in a service industry setting, the YMCA, or other community-based programs is helpful.
  7. Must possess and demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, and solid written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Applicant must have the ability to work with others, knowledge and basic understanding of the outdoors and how human actions effect the natural world.
  9. The desire to run programming for youth and adult groups in all aspects of Camp.
  10. The incumbent will exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

Essential Functions

  1. Participate in further training to insure personal growth and a better understanding of YMCA and AmeriCorps policies and practices.
  2. Assist with the maintenance and repair of Camp trail systems and habitat improvement projects. Including routine pruning, erosion controls, nesting box and platform installation, tree planting and shoreline improvements.
  3. Lead Environmental Education activities as assigned on the daily program schedule.
  4. Assist with operations of our Early Childhood Education program.
  5. Work in cooperation with individual schools, youth groups, and conference groups. Develop and lead programs and activities which enhance their experience while visiting Camp Minikani.
  6. Working as a team the Program Leader will plan, design, and install an interpretive nature trail for camp users to enjoy and explore.
  7. Cooperate in work projects at Minikani's Equestrian Center as well as assist with activities and pony rides
  8. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Education Director.
  9. Actively participate in all evaluation processes to better understand the impact of one's service.
  10. Responsible for strict adherence to all branch/departmental policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations.
  11. Eliminate or identify any risks that could cause accidents.

  4. Improved wildlife habitat and erosion controls in natural areas of Camp.
  5. Increased knowledge and awareness of Early Childhood Education programs, and Equestrian programs.
  6. Operating within the guidelines of the policies and procedures of the YMCA Camp Minikani, the Milwaukee Association, and AmeriCorps Programs.
