Hydrologist, Soil Scientist and/or Botanist

The Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management Battle Mountain Field Office, is recruiting an experienced hydrologist, botanist and/or soil scientist to work cooperatively as part of a multi-disciplinary Proper Function Condition (PFC) monitoring team. The overall objective of the PFC team is to complete lentic and lotic riparian functioning condition assessments, water inventories, and upland watershed monitoring. Information collected will be used to maintain, restore, and/or improve riparian and upland resource values to achieve a healthy and productive ecological condition. Compensation: $17.64 per hour, medical and dental benefits, per diem, paid personal leave and training. Timeline: August 2008 - November 14, 2008. Mojave Desert Cleanup and Restoration Associate

The Great Basin Institute in cooperation with BLM Office in Las Vegas is recruiting a Mojave Desert Cleanup and Restoration Associate. The Las Vegas Field Office's Desert Cleanup and Restoration Program works directly with local communities to implement desert cleanup projects and restore disturbed areas. The aim of the Desert Cleanup and Restoration Program is to remove household trash, construction debris, tires, and abandoned vehicles from the public lands administered by BLM. Following initial cleanup activities the Associate, in cooperation with other program staff and organized volunteers, will work closely with the BLM Restoration Team on restoration projects including soil decompaction, planting mesquite or other live plants, applying vertical mulch, and seeding. Additional post-cleanup activities include resource protection and anti-dumping educational programs in schools and communities, creating and placing "No Dumping" signs, as well as the creation of informational/educational kiosks to discourage future violations. 2008/2009 Year-round Restoration Crew Member

The Great Basin Institute and the Nevada Conservation Corps are recruiting 2008/2009 Year Round Restoration Crew Members to conduct projects such as: habitat improvement, restoration, and recreation projects with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and local and state agencies. Compensation and benefits: This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living stipend of $14,122 for the year, education award in the amount of $4,725 per diem and health and dental insurance.
