Can I request a copy of an old job posting?

Job postings in the Special Opportunities section are usually archived for approximately 60 days after they are withdrawn from the site. For a nominal fee, you may request a copy.

Is there a way to search all the sources mentioned in EcoEmploy?

Unfortunately, no. Because the employers and other sources are Web sites that are external to EcoEmploySM, there are some obstacles to a central search. One problem is that Web sites can block certain pages from being indexed by search engines, even though they are publicly accessible; some employers prefer to have visitors enter their sites through their home pages, instead of other pages on their sites. Another problem is that many larger companies have databases of job openings that only generate Web pages for the viewer once a specific form is used. Since each form is different, it is difficult to pass the correct search parameters to each one.

Is there a Web site that specializes in ... ?

All suitable Web sites that EcoEmploySM has found are included somewhere in the Web site; a page of specialized Web sites is available. If the specialty you are looking for is not in EcoEmploySM, it may be due to one of these reasons:

  • It does not exist
  • EcoEmploySM has not found it (yet)
  • It does not meet the criteria.

There do not appear to be any Web sites that focus on part-time or at-home jobs in the environmental sector.

Are there any sources of environmental jobs outside North America?

Although EcoEmploySM does not actively search for these sources, they are included in the More Resources section as they are found.

Can EcoEmploy circulate my résumé or find a job for me?

EcoEmploySM does not circulate résumés or find jobs for individuals. The time needed to perform those tasks would be prohibitive and would interfere with the maintenance of the Web site.

Does EcoEmploy post job announcements for free?

No. A daily fee applies to all job postings in the Special Opportunities section.

How can I find colleges and universities with environmental programs?

Visit your local library and look for The College Blue Book. This set of several volumes includes, among other things, lists of schools by the degrees and subject areas offered. You can use a search engine to find the Web sites of the institutions that interest you.

I have a problem finding faculty positions in college/university Web sites.

Although many institutions combine faculty and non-faculty positions in their Web sites, some do not. In such cases, try visiting the individual academic departments that are of interest to you. The home pages of most educational institutions usually contain "Academics" links.

An employer is listed under a particular location, but does not have jobs there.

Employers are listed under the states and provinces in which they have offices. If a particular location is not mentioned in the employer's jobs page, the employer probably does not have a vacancy there at the moment.

May employers request links to home pages, instead of employment pages?

Yes! EcoEmploySM will link to an employer's home page for a modest annual fee. Please read the linking policy.

Many of the firms listed under Canadian provinces are USA-based.

Although these employers are USA-based, they have offices in those provinces. There are a few Canada-based firms that have locations in the United States.

I have a complaint against an employer listed in EcoEmploy.

To be listed in EcoEmploySM, an employer must have some involvement in the environmental area. This typically means that the employer provides some kind of environmental service, such as consulting, hazardous waste handling or remediation, compliance assistance, etc. In order to provide job seekers with a wide range of opportunities, EcoEmploySM does not make value judgements regarding particular employers. Such decisions are best left to the individual job seeker. If you have a complaint against an employer, please bring it to the attention of the employer or appropriate authorities, not to EcoEmploySM.

When I select a link, nothing happens.

The Web site that has the page you want may be busy when you activate the link. Try it again; if there is another pause, try it once more. If it still does not work, the server may be down temporarily. Try again later.

When I select a link, I get the "File/object not found" message.

The page's address may have changed, the page may have been deleted, or the server may be down. One thing you can try is to go to the edit the Web address (http://...) bar by deleting everything after the .com, .gov or .org and press the Enter key. For example, if the address is

http://www.widgets.com/employ.html

delete characters so that it says

http://www.widgets.com

and press the Enter key. This should, in most cases, take you to the site's home page, which may have a link to a new jobs page. Let EcoEmploySM know by sending e-mail.

When I select a link, I get a message saying that a connection could not be made.

The Web site that you are trying to reach is down or no longer exists. Try again later; if it still does not work, let EcoEmploySM know by sending e-mail.
