EXPERIENCE  (continued)

Narragansett Environmental Analysis, Inc. Kingston,  Rhode Island
Gas Chromatography Scheduling Coordinator  -  Rhode Island Division
Gas Chromatography Analyst
1989  -  1991
1987  -  1989
Created weekly schedules of incoming work for department of 6 people. Trained co-workers on commercial and contract laboratory protocols, use of chromatography software, and preparation of data for preliminary review. Assisted systems group in development of new software. Familiar with Hewlett Packard Chemstation chromatography software package. Analyzed soil and water extracts for chlorinated pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls, and esterified herbicides according to EPA commercial and contract laboratory protocols. Performed routine maintenance on gas chromatographs, including replacement and wipe-testing of electron-capture detectors.

Pesticide Studies Chemist
Gas Chromatography Analyst
1985  -  1987
Performed and validated methods of analysis to determine concentrations of pesticides and metabolites in crops and soils. Wrote final reports to clients. Trained new staff. Participated in a two-day Hewlett Packard seminar on gas chromatography.

Baker Treatment, Inc. Dana,  Massachusetts
Laboratory Chemist (co-op)  -  Thorton Road Facility 1984  -  1985
Performed analyses on incoming and outgoing chemical wastes: pH, specific gravity, flash point, BTU and halogen content by Parr bomb calorimetry and titration, percent solids, polychlorinated biphenyl content by gas chromatography, and total organic carbon content. Measured purity of reclaimed chlorinated solvents by gas chromatography.

Advanced Materials Voluntown,  Connecticut
Laboratory Technician (co-op)  -  Concrete Research Department 1983
Carried out quality control tests on liquid admixtures and crushed samples of concrete and aggregates: percent solids, pH, chloride content by silver nitrate autotitration, and specific gravity. Performed ultraviolet and infrared spectrophotometry. Determined sulfate concentration by gravimetric analysis. Crushed and sieved solid samples to appropriate grain sizes.

Finnegan Analytical Company Providence,  Rhode Island
(Became Narragansett Environmental Analysis, Inc.  -  Rhode Island Division.) 1981  -  1982
Laboratory Assistant (co-op)  -  Metals Preparation Department
Prepared extracts from soil and water samples according to EPA methods for metals determination by inductively-coupled plasma and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Performed EPA Toxicity Extraction Procedure. Completed hexavalent chromium extraction by EPA coprecipitation method. Determined total organic carbon content on soil and water samples.
